Here’s the truth about Gavin Newsom’s failures on:

• BUDGET: In one year, California went from having a $100 billion budget surplus to a $30 billion deficit  because of Democrats’ reckless spending and agenda. Case in point: what could have been a cost-effective speech at the capitol has turned into a four-day, taxpayer-funded State of the State tour.
• CRIME: A recent PPIC survey found that more than 3 in 4 California adults think violence and street crime is a major or somewhat of a problem. Despite this, Newsom and Democrats continue to advance a pro-criminal agenda. Just recently, Assembly Democrats blocked Republican safety bills that include enhanced consequences for those who use a gun in violent crimes and making sexual assault a violent felony.
• HOMELESSNESS: Despite billions of dollars spent, California’s homeless crisis is getting worse. California accounts  for 30% of the nation’s homeless population and half of the nation’s unsheltered population. A recent Quinnipiac poll found that a plurality of Californians think homelessness is the top issue facing our state.
• DECLINING POPULATION: In the last two years, 700,000 Californians moved away, losing more than anywhere else in the nation. Florida and Texas, Newsom’s favorite sparring partners, gained more than anywhere else in the nation. Exhausted Californians are moving to more economically-welcoming red states.
• UNAFFORDABLE HOUSING: Gavin Newsom promised to build 3.5 million new housing units by 2025. He’s not even close — only 13% have been permitted. He’s now moved the goal posts to 2.5 million permitted only by 2030, now calling his initial target solely “aspirational.” It’s no wonder 74% of likely voters say housing affordability is a big concern in their part of the state.
• FAILING SCHOOLS: After Newsom kept schools closed longer than any other state in the nation, children suffered. Today, more than half of students aren’t at grade level in English, while two thirds or more aren’t at grade level in math and science. For low income and minority students, the numbers are even worse.
• HIGH SPEED RAIL: California continues to push forward on its train to nowhere, wasting billions of taxpayer dollars in the process. Today, the cost estimate has ballooned to $128 billion. Even Newsom’s scaled-down debut rail is $10 billion over budget and years behind schedule. 
• WATER: Despite historic winter storms, Democrats still refuse to prioritize water storage to help Californians through future droughts. In 2014, California voters approved billions of dollars for new water storage, but not one inch of it has been built. On top of that, Newsom had no new  funding for water storage in his January state budget.

Californians deserve so much better than the downward spiral that Newsom and California Democrats have launched our state down.
