Republicans are seeing a bump in registered voters across California, according to the latest voter registration report from the California secretary of state. 

The latest registration report, which tracked voter registration between October 2023 and January 2024, shows Republicans slightly increased the number of registered voters in every single State Assembly, State Senate and Congressional District.

Republicans overall gained 46,000 registered voters statewide, while Democrats lost 30,000. The number of No Party Preference voters dwindled, with a loss of 70,000 registered voters. 

California GOP leaders said the boost in registration numbers could be for a number of reasons, including disappointment in policies passed by the state’s Democratic-led government and also the Republican’s “closed” primary presidential election. 

California Republican Party Chairwoman Jessica Millan Patterson began leading the state’s party in 2019. That was when No Party Preference voters outnumbered Republicans. Since then, the party has added 623,000 registered Republicans to the voter rolls. 

“I’m not surprised to see it because not only have California Republicans shown up with the solutions that they have, but California Democrats have given them so much to work with,” Patterson said. “It’s definitely been about playing the long game; it’s been that from day 1 in February of 2019. We wanted to make sure we’re building something here in California that people would continue to build on long after the leadership of the party left. It’s exciting to watch.”…
