Demand Governor Newsom Block the Parole of an HIV-Positive Home Invasion Rapist and Serial Child Predator

California families deserve real protection, not Governor Gavin Newsom’s dangerous soft-on-crime policies that put violent predators ahead of public safety. The parole board has approved the early release of two dangerous sex offenders who should remain behind bars for life.

Roberto Detrinidad is an HIV-positive felon who committed a horrific home invasion rape in San Francisco. In the middle of the night, he broke into a woman’s apartment, pulled down her pajamas and underwear while she was sleeping, and sodomized her in her own bed. This predator planned the attack after spotting his victim, bragged at his parole hearing that it was his “Super Bowl of crime” that would finally make him feel like a man, and admitted he lied at trial by claiming the victim had consented. He has served only 11 years of a life sentence.

David Allen Funston is a serial child predator convicted of kidnapping and committing lewd and lascivious acts with multiple children under the age of 14. After serving just 25 years, he was cleared for parole under Newsom’s Elderly Parole Program. Placer County has filed new charges against him for kidnapping and molesting another child in 1996.

These men should never be released. Detrinidad’s victim permanently lost her sense of security, was forced to flee San Francisco, and warned that he is not truly remorseful and remains a danger to others. Funston’s victims continue to suffer lifelong trauma, including infertility and paralyzing fear, and have stated he still fantasizes about children and has not changed.
