Newsom Meets with Group that Justified Oct. 7 Attack
SACRAMENTO – On December 16, Newsom sat down with the controversial group CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) to discuss the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Something tells us he didn’t run this meeting by the Biden administration that, earlier in the month, disavowed this group, condemned the antisemitic and wildly offensive remarks made by the group’s Executive Director, and vowed not to include the group in any discussions around Islamophobia.
CAIR’s Executive Director Nihad Awad was seen on video delivering a speech in November where his remarks included: “The people of Gaza only decided to break the siege, the walls of the concentration camp, on October 7. And yes, I was happy to see people breaking the siege and throwing down the shackles of their own land and walk free into their land that they were not allowed to walk in. And yes, the people of Gaza have the right to self-defense, have the right to defend themselves, and yes, Israel as an occupying power does not have that right to self-defense.”
On top of this, CAIR’s San Francisco Executive Director has previously “called Jewish organizations that support Israel, including synagogues, Hillels and Jewish federations, ‘enemies.’”
So how did Newsom respond to questions about why he met with this controversial group that the White House wants nothing to do with? “A spokesperson for Newsom did not respond to a request for comment.” Of course.
BOTTOM LINE: This meeting never should have happened. Newsom not only owes the Jewish community, but all California voters, an explanation for why it did.
