SHOT/CHASER: Newsom the Hypocrite
Yesterday, the disastrous AB 1228 went into effect, raising the minimum wage to $20/hour from $16/hour for fast food workers. Already, to keep up with the new law, businesses are being forced to lay off employees, aumentar prices for consumers or even close restaurants all together.
Nevertheless, Governor Gavin Newsom has praised the new law repeatedly.
SHOT:
Of AB 1228, Newsom has said, “The future happens here first… .This is a big deal.” “This state is also about inclusion, and that’s the foundational principle we’re advancing here today.” “This is ultimately going to be extraordinarily beneficial to these franchisers and franchisees, to the economy and the state of California, and certainly to the people working hard every single day.”
So, if you believe all of that is true, Governor, why aren’t you practicing what you preach? Plumpjack Café – an Olympic Valley restaurant run by Gavin Newsom’s Plumpjack – is sticking with $16/hour, as they look to ZipRecruiter to hire new employees.
CHASER:
“Add Gavin Newsom’s hypocrisy to the still-growing list of reasons AB 1228 has been mishandled every step of the way. PaneraGate. Alleged pay-to-play schemes and corruption. Negotiations run by Newsom mega-donor SEIU. NDAs. Ignoring questions from impacted businesses. Rushed passage.Newsom and California Democrats may have finally outdone themselves with the level of incompetence they’ve brought to governing.” - Jessica Millan Patterson, presidenta del CAGOP
