In California, it’s Misery Business.

Although Gavin Newsom loves to brag about California leading the nation, the truth is California under the thumb of Newsom and radical regressive Democrats is leading all the wrong lists – from being the state with the most one-way move outs to having the cities most affected by retail theft and holding the largest homeless population, just to name a few.

So, it should come as no surprise that Democrats’ failed policies have also made our once Golden State a bad place to do business. Here’s a reminder of what’s happened, thanks to Newsom and California Democrats’ failed one-party rule:

  • This past week, Carlsbad-based restaurant chain Rubio’s Coastal Grill announced they would be closing 48 locations around the state, citing, “the rising cost of doing business in California.”

  • Democrats’ fast food minimum wage increase has driven up food prices, hurt small businesses, and cost Californians thousands of jobs so far. If only these restaurants had the same hookup as Newsom’s donor who secured a carveout from the new law.
  • Newsom’s draconian pandemic shutdowns caused thousands of businesses to close their doors for good, including nearly a third of California restaurants, while many other corporate headquarters relocated to more business-friendly states like Texas.
  • Newsom’s own hometown of San Francisco is flooded with so many stores leaving downtown thanks to failed Democrat policies that the San Francisco Chronicle has an interactive map monitoring which major retailers have closed up shop for good.
  • For the third month in a row, California has the nation’s highest unemployment rate.

“Gavin Newsom and California Democrats’ failed policies continue to make it harder to operate a successful business in our state and are completely detrimental to California’s workforce. It’s time for Democrats to finally come to the table and start working with Republicans on business-friendly solutions that will benefit all Californians.” — CAGOP Chairwoman Jessica Millan Patterson
