Disastrous Week for CA Dems

The California Democratic Party kicks off its state convention today, yet from Washington, DC to Sacramento, it’s hard to deny that it’s been a tough week for California Democrats. Here’s just a few of the top stories that should be on your radar as Democrats begin to gather in LA.

California Democrats Oppose Responsible Debt Ceiling Increase

California Republican Speaker Kevin McCarthy and House Republicans continue to fight for a responsible debt limit increase that also reduces wasteful federal spending. While President Biden refuses to negotiate, even calling himself “blameless” if the government defaults, Americans support McCarthy and Republicans’ efforts.

A new CNN poll showed that 60% of Americans stand with House Republicans’ position, believing that Congress should only increase the debt limit if spending cuts are included.Similarly, a new Fox News poll  shows 57% of registered voters only think Congress should raise the debt limit if there are spending cuts.

California House Democrats, including Congressmen Mike Levin and Josh Harder, had the opportunity to join Republicans and support a responsible debt limit increase by voting for the Limit, Save, Grow Act. Instead, they opposed it, preferring zero cuts and more out-of-control spending.

Joe Biden and California House Democrats are standing in the way of a fiscally responsible future that Americans are longing for.

Julie Su Still Sidelined

No one knows better than Californians what a disaster Julie Su would be as our nation’s Labor Secretary, yet somehow, she’s Biden’s nominee, anxiously awaiting a full confirmation vote on the Senate floor.

As California’s Labor Secretary, she oversaw the disastrous Employment Development Department that gave away more than $30 billion in taxpayer money to fraudsters, including prison inmates. She also oversaw the destructive AB 5 that waged a war against thousands of independent contractors and freelancers.

The last thing Su should receive is a promotion on the national stage. Thankfully, her confirmation is looking rocky.

With a very slim Senate Democrat majority, Su has little room for error in securing votes. But as The Hill notes, “she has yet to publicly win over any of the other key senators — Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), Jon Tester (D-Mont.) and Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.) — who will determine her fate.”

Senators should vote NO on California Democrat Julie Su. Just look to her record in California to see why.

DUI Dave’s Downward Spiral

Things are getting worse for Congressional wannabe Dave Min after video footage was released this week of his failed sobriety test. DUI Dave was arrested after driving with a blood alcohol concentration almost twice the legal limit, endangering Californians’ lives in the process.

Even with new video footage reinforcing Min’s reckless and dangerous behavior, his California Democrat endorsers like Katie Porter, Eleni Kounalakis, Rob Bonta, Josh Newman, Jasmeet Bains, Jacqui Irwin, Pilar Schiavo and more remain silent on whether or not they still support DUI Dave’s campaign or think he should drop out.

If anyone sees them running around the CA Dem convention this weekend, ask them where they stand on their support for DUI Dave!

Newsom’s Budget Even Worse Than He Says

First in January, Newsom had to admit that he’d turned a nearly $100 billion surplus into a $23 billion deficit in just one year. Then, while releasing his May Revise budget earlier this month, he admitted that the deficit would actually be closer to $32 billion. Now, the nonpartisan Legislative Analyst’s Office predicted this week that the budget deficit actually nears $35 billion.

Not only that, but the LAO projected the state revenues will likely be $11 billion below what Newsom estimated. Bottom line from the LAO: the state likely can’t afford Newsom’s reckless spending plan.

Maybe if Newsom and California Democrats’ incompetent policies hadn’t driven hundreds of thousands of Californians to move away in the last few years, taking their tens of billions in tax dollars with them, the state wouldn’t be in such dire financial straits today. Bad policies and massive spending have consequences.

Assembly Democrats Take Threat from Skittles Seriously; Fentanyl, Not So Much

This week, Assembly Democrats reinforced their commitment to keeping California children safe… from Skittles.

Republicans in recent weeks have been relentlessly pressing Democrats to prioritize the fentanyl crisis and advance commonsense, bipartisan bills that would hold drug dealers accountable. At every turn, Assembly Democrats refused.

Instead, this week Assembly Democrats came together to protect our children from chemical ingredients found in certain sweets. It’s pretty tough to claim you’re protecting our children by taking away their candy yet not doing everything in your power to help get lethal fentanyl pills off the street that are poisoning children and destroying families.

BOTTOM LINE: California Democrats never miss an opportunity to make out-of-touch, reckless decisions that push our state further down the wrong path. As Democrats convene for their convention this weekend, it will serve as a reminder that Democrats’ one-party rule is failing our state. Sadly, it’s Californians who are left to deal with the consequences of their incompetence.
