SACRAMENTO – Today, California Republican Party Chairwoman Jessica Millan Patterson released the following statement after Gavin Newsom signed his new gas tax into law:

“Despite bipartisan opposition, backroom negotiations that lacked transparency, and erasing time for public input or fiscal review, Gavin Newsom today gifted Californians with his new gas tax that they will get to pay for. Not only will this law raise gas prices on consumers, but it will lead to fuel shortages and kill California jobs in the process. Today, California has the highest gas prices in the nation. Californians struggling to make ends meet will remember that when they needed help, Gavin Newsom and California Democrats turned their backs on them and chose to make things worse.”
